Kate Middleton just became an official patron of the hospital where she received preventative chemotherapy treatment, marking her first royal engagement of the year. During the outing, Kate visited with patients at the Royal Marsden Hospital and remarked that “coming in the front entrance here, having made so many quiet, private visits, actually it’s quite nice.”

Meanwhile, body language expert Judi James went ahead and analyzed Kate’s vibes during the trip, and said she seemed authentically happy to be there.

“Her brows are raised in a high arch and she is very animated, with very emphatic hand gestures that signal excitement and gratitude,” Judi told the Daily Mail. “Her palms are cupped and she throws her hands around, showing an even greater desire to talk as she does to listen and this reminds us of the unique shared experiences and relationships she has with them all.”

Judi added that Kate was “naturally and authentically empathetic” with patients and even used “body language mirroring and matching, showing shared states, thoughts and experiences.”

“There is also a moment, which seems to be primarily for herself, when she seems to tilt her head back to look up at the building just before she steps under the imposing stone archway at the entrance,” Judi notes. “Her very meaningful facial expression here suggests she is doing what many patients of the Royal Marsden do, which is to imprint and even savour the moment when they return to visit rather than to get treatment. It is often a moment to make a comparison of their thoughts and feelings on their first visit and to compare it to their present ones.”

Kate also confirmed that she is officially in remission yesterday, writing on Instagram, “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. C.”
